THE General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has announced a significant rebranding within the church, renaming the well-known Apapa Family to ‘The Favoured Family’.
The announcement was made during Pastor Adeboye’s second visit to Trinity Towers, the home of the RCCG City of David parish, which serves as the headquarters of the newly renamed family.

He was accompanied by his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Folu Adeboye.

Speaking from 2 Kings 2:19-24, Pastor Adeboye explained that the renaming was a result of divine instruction.
He stated that the Apapa Family was in need of a fresh outpouring of grace, which he likened to the symbolic use of salt and a new cruse in the biblical passage.

“The salt represents God bringing back taste and seasoning, removing bitterness, keeping away demonic influences, and ushering in rapid progress,” he said.
Pastor Adeboye further elaborated on the significance of the new cruse, describing it as a sign of a fresh start and restoration of lost glory.
“If anyone had once been hot and had grown lukewarm, they would now burn brightly again,” he declared.

The renaming marks a new chapter for the RCCG family, ushering in a renewed sense of purpose and direction under its new identity as ‘The Favoured Family’.
According to Pastor Adeboye, this change is set to bring about a deeper spiritual revival within the fold.

Additionally, RCCG City of David (CoD), Victoria Island, which previously held a special independent status, has now been brought under the full financial and administrative control of RCCG Headquarters.

The move follows the 2024 dismissal of former Pastor-in-Charge, Iluyomade, popularly known as Pastor ID, in the wake of a birthday scandal.
His departure led to a struggle over the ownership of the parish. Since then, Pastor ID has established his own church, The Family Fellowship, holding services at the Oriental Hotel.

The renaming of the Apapa Family and the restructuring of CoD were deemed necessary to “remove bitterness, keep away demonic influences,” and bring renewed spiritual order to the parish.

The event was attended by prominent RCCG figures, including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Elder Ohiwerei, Elder Wigwe, Joseph Obayemi, and JT, among others.
