IN my experience as a teacher, I have learnt not to write off any child. I have seen unbelievable transformation in some students that has made me conclude that no child is a dullard.
I was working as a full-time teacher in a private secondary school in the city of Ibadan, Oyo State, and there was this boy who was among the dull students in his set.

The author
All the teachers knew him as one of the poor students in the school. He was like that all through his junior secondary school.
Well, this boy wrote his exams, managed to pass and found himself in the senior secondary school. He chose to go to the commercial class; I don’t know what influenced his decision.
Suddenly, something happened to the boy; the Mathematics teacher was the first to notice. The Maths teacher was a new teacher, she didn’t know the boy when he was in the junior secondary school.
After the first CA, the Maths teacher started asking around for the boy; she wanted to know who the boy was.
The other teachers were concerned; we wanted to know why she was asking for him. Did he commit a crime?
No, he was the best student in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. He was not only the best student, his performance was mind-blowing!
Really?
The transformation was unbelievable. He transformed from being a dullard to becoming a genius!
His excellent performance was not limited to Mathematics, he picked up in all other subjects.
This one-time dullard graduated as one of the best students in his set.
Don’t give up on any child. Don’t write off any child.
