FORMER Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, says Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State is setting the pace in the engagement of youths in governance across Nigeria.
The England-born former Reading FC player gave the verdict in a statement made available on Friday in Warri, Delta State.
He commended the governor for walking the talk of his campaign promises by involving youths in his administration rather than recycling old legs.
“His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has exhibited the type quality leadership that is now the envy of other governors in the country especially in the area of recruitment of personnel into the different offices in the state since his assumption of office after the difficult fight of the general elections.
“Looking at the ages of the people that the governor has appointed to manage the different offices in the state, one cannot but see clearly that there is truly a total departure from the status quo, thus departing from the usual recruitment of the old guard and recycling of individuals in the governance of the state,” the ex-international noted.
According to him, “the governor consistently said during his electioneering campaign that he was going to do things differently if elected governor of our dear state.
“His Excellency’s actions so far has shown that he is ready to talk the talk and walk the walk in the governance of dear state.
“From the age bracket of his appointed commissioners and personnel appointed into the other critical offices in the state, we can see that, truly, His Excellency did not have his plans in place before coming to office but he is actually determined to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of deltans in the next four years.”
Sodje added that “looking at the various decisions that His Excellency has taken so for, one is bound to appreciate the fact that the governor means well for the state and all that he needs presently is the cooperation and understanding of every Deltan in order to enable the governor deliver on the promises that he made to the people of the state irrespective of political party’s affiliations, tribe and religion going forward.
“I applaud His Excellency for setting the pace by empowering the younger generation of Delta State in his appointments and thereby giving hope to the generality of young Deltans.”
The former Leeds United player urged people of the state to encourage the governor in his genuine desire to usher in a refreshing time for the people.
“His Excellency should therefore be encouraged to continue on this line of thinking in his governance so as to make good things happen in the lives of Deltans in particular and Nigerian in general.
“The future of every society now belongs to the youths with sincere, honest and selfless advice from the older generation to enable our state to join the league of developed society internationally.
“Your Excellency, Deltans are hungry for good, purposeful leadership, the type that Your Excellency has started.
“I have no doubt in my mind from my conversations and discussions with Your Excellency that you will surely take Delta State to a higher and better level with meaningful development during your tenure in office as the governor of Delta state,” the former Porthmouth prolific player enthused.
