JUST IN: Factional Rivers Lawmakers Hold Plenary At Assembly Quarters

TWENTY-SIX members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reportedly held a plenary session at the auditorium of the assembly residential quarters.

This followed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s demolition order of the Assembly Complex on Wednesday.

He has said the demolition was to rebuild a suitable structure following the burning of part of the complex on October 29th 2023.

The lawmakers, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), are reportedly being backed by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.

The sitting by the faction, led by Martins Amaewhule, follows the declaration of their seats vacant by the five-man group led by Edison Ehie on Wednesday for jumping ship.

During Thursday’s plenary by the Amaewhule group, the lawmakers condemned the demolition of the Assembly Complex by the state government.

The lawmaker representing Andoni constituency, Ofiks Kagbang, moved a motion of urgent public importance condemning the demolition, and this was unanimously adopted by the House.

Another member, Major Jack, presented the report on the Rivers State Local Government Amendment Bill to the Speaker, which was adopted.
