TEDE, OYO STATE — The family of Mama Sarah Aderoju Oni has announced her passing at the age of 93, describing her as “a mother in a million” who lived a deeply Godly life and touched countless hearts with her kindness.
Mama Oni passed peacefully on Sunday, 19 April 2026, at her home in Ile Oni, Isale Igbagbo Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Known affectionately in her community as Iya Oloyin – a nickname that spoke to her warm and generous nature – the matriarch of the Oni family, was widely celebrated for her tender heart and her unwavering commitment to raising her children in the way of the Lord.
Neighbours and locals say many lives were “sweetened” by her benevolence, and her absence has already left a deep void in the close-knit community.
The news of her passing was disclosed on Sunday by her son, Pastor (Dr) Lawrence Oni, a respected medical dentist and senior pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

In a heartfelt statement, he paid tribute to a woman whose faith and compassion shaped all who knew her.
“She was well loved, not just by her family but by everyone who crossed her path,” Pastor Dr Oni said. “She lived what she preached – a life of service, gentleness, and love.”
Mama Sarah Aderoju Oni is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who have described her legacy as one of enduring grace.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course by the family.
