BARINADA Mpigi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, is dead.
The lawmaker, who represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, reportedly passed away on Thursday at the age of 64. He was born on June 23, 1961.
A source confirmed his demise on Thursday morning.
However, as at the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by his family.
Mpigi began his legislative career in 2011 when he was first elected into the House of Representatives.
He was re-elected for a second term in 2016. In 2019, he secured election to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Rivers South-East.
During the Ninth Assembly, he was appointed Chairman of a joint Senate committee established to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region, a development that underscored his involvement in addressing critical issues affecting oil-producing communities.
Until his death, Mpigi served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, playing a key role in legislative oversight of infrastructure development across the country.
