FORMER Nigerian international, Sam Sodje, has serenaded the news of Tony Elumelu’s intention to own a football club in Nigeria.
In a statement obtained by Stonix News on Tuesday, the former Reading FC defence merchant said the move will attract more investment in the lucrative sport in the country.

“I believe that the Nigerian Professional Football League needs the calibre of Tony Elumelu to come into the sponsorship of football teams for the football industry to grow in the country as it’s obtainable in the more advanced countries.
“The football industry has become a huge financial contributor to the economies of the different countries where private businessmen and women have taken the bull by the horn in the ownership of football clubs.
“I have no doubt that with Tony Elumelu coming into this area of the economy in Nigeria, other financially capable corporate individuals will be attracted into this area of the sports sector of the country.
“Tony Elumelu’s entrance may just be the tonic pill that our football industry has been waiting for, for the needed development and improvement to happen.
“This development can only be to the benefit of Nigerian Footballers in particular and the Nigerian bigger economy.
“I totally welcome this piece of good news and hope that Tony Elumelu will walk the talk so as to enable the football sector move into a more professional and productive level in Nigeria,” the former Super Eagles player noted.
