The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State Chapter, has strongly condemned the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl by a traditional ruler in Laaagba community, Ondo East Local Government Area of the state.
The monarch, identified as Chief Adeniyi Ifedayo, is accused of luring the young girl into his residence and subjecting her to sexual harassment over a period of two weeks.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Chairperson, Tola Gbadamosi, and Secretary, Oluwatosin Ighoteguono, NAWOJ called on the Ondo State Government and relevant security agencies to ensure that the suspect faces the full wrath of the law without fear or favour.

The women journalists’ body also demanded a transparent and thorough investigation, followed by diligent prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
The association reaffirmed its solidarity with the victim and her family, encouraging them to cooperate fully with the authorities to bring the alleged perpetrator to justice.
“It is unacceptable that a custodian of culture and tradition would be linked to such a despicable act.
“We call for immediate and decisive action to uphold the rights and dignity of the child,” the statement read.
NAWOJ further urged parents, guardians, and communities to be more vigilant in protecting children from abuse and exploitation, stressing the need for societal involvement in child protection.
The group also advocated for stronger legal frameworks and stricter enforcement of existing laws to ensure the safety and welfare of children across the state and beyond.
The association’s firm stance underscores growing concerns about the rising cases of child abuse and the urgent need for all stakeholders—government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and civil society—to close ranks in the fight against such heinous crimes.
