ANAMBRA State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has sacked all political appointees in his government, signaling the formal dissolution of his first-term cabinet and the beginning of a new administrative cycle.
This is coming barely 24 hours after he and his deputy were sworn in for a second term in office amidst pomp and pageantry. The directive which was conveyed in an official circular by the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on March 18, 2026 directed all political appointees to hand over their duties with immediate effect .
It also instructed affected appointees to transfer responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or, in their absence, the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) . The handover must be completed on or before the close of work on the same day, pending the constitution of a new cabinet .
According to the circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the SSG, Dr Nwabufor Nwankwo, the governor also summoned all first-term cabinet members to a meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the ANSEC Chambers, Light House, Awka .
In his inaugural address delivered at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Soludo highlighted key achievements of his first term, particularly in the area of security . He declared an end to the long-standing sit-at-home disruptions that had plagued the Southeast, noting that economic and social activities have largely resumed across the state .
“The debilitating one-sit-at-home is over, and our schools, markets, businesses, and public servants are back to work,” he said, adding that Anambra is now regarded as one of the safest states in Nigeria .
The swearing-in ceremony drew several high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara .
Soludo’s re-election followed his victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship poll, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .
