Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting
After much suspense and uproar, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law.
He assented to the bill at about 12 noon at a brief ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Aso Villa in Abuja.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, were at the event.
There have been mounting public anxiety in the last few weeks over President Buhari’s seeming delay in assenting to the re-amended bill.
Expectedly, some members of the public, civil society organisations as well as other critical stakeholders had concluded that he was withholding assent again.
Just last Tuesday, some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) gathered at the Eagle Square, Abuja to express their worries over the alleged delay in assenting to the reworked bill.
Nigerians believe there will be some level of improvement in the electoral process with the signing into law of the bill ahead of the 2023.
