Atiku’s Divisive Remarks Justify My Fight For Equity, Justice, Fairness – Wike

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

FOLLOWING the divisive and controversial remarks of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, said the remarks have justified his fight for equity, justice and fairness.

He, therefore, called on the PDP and its Presidential Candidate to tender an apology to Nigerians.

Stonix News reports that Mr Abubakar had remarked that the next president northern Nigeria needs is somebody from the north.

“I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country.

“I think what the average northerner needs is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country.

“This is what the northerner needs. He (the northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate.

“This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin,” he had retorted.

Responding to Atiku’s ethnicistic remark on Monday in Port Harcourt shortly after arriving from Spain, Wike said he doubted the possibility of Atiku making such a statement at a critical time of the nation’s history.

According to him, such disposition of the presidential candidate would justify his fight for equity, justice and fairness in the PDP.

While insisting that the party must urgently address the issue and appeal to Nigerians, he warned that people might begin to see the PDP as one that has jettisoned equity and justice.
