ACCRA: Founder of Africa Check, Peter Cunliffe Jones, has urged fact-checkers to not only fact-check false information, but also factual information to confirm it is true.

He gave the charge on Thursday while giving a presentation on the topic, “Impactful Claim Selection: Questions to Think about when Choosing Claims to Check” at the ongoing 2024 Africa Facts Summit held at the Department of Economics, University of Ghana.
According to him, fact-checking only false information will scare the public into thinking that all information are false.
He, therefore, urged fact-checkers to also fact-check factual information and report them as true and correct.
The second day of the summit had media and fact-check experts discussing on issues such as: Regional digital Challenges: Media Integrity, disinformation, and digital
safety in North Africa, platform transparency and data access for African stakeholders, working with the educational community to promote media and information literacy.
Others include: Health misinformation and infodemic management techniques in Africa,
and perspectives from recent disease outbreaks on the continent, fundraising to support fact-checking efforts: challenges and opportunities and working toward fact-checking excellence: The IFCN Code of
Principles as a guide and shield.
The summit also included breakout sessions on various topics bordering on fact-checking.
