THE Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has reaffirmed that the state government is only documenting traditional medicine practitioners, commonly known as native doctors, and not registering or licensing them to practise.
The clarification was made during the third ANSEC meeting held on Friday, 17th February 2025.
The government also emphasised that investigations are ongoing into suspected quacks and criminals among those in custody, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law.
In line with the provisions of the Anambra State Homeland Law 2025, the Council directed that communities documenting non-indigenes must do so without charging fees.
It stressed that the process should be considered a social responsibility rather than a means of generating revenue.
The move is aimed at ensuring inclusivity and proper record-keeping across the state.
Furthermore, ANSEC approved requests from certain communities seeking government intervention in the management of their community-built secondary schools.
These schools will be upgraded to meet the standards of state-owned public secondary institutions.
The integration of their teachers into the state’s education workforce was also approved, with plans to recruit additional teachers where necessary.
As part of ongoing infrastructure development, the state government awarded a contract worth ₦801,534,464.00 for the construction of the Nzam headquarters road in Anambra West Local Government Area.
The contract was awarded to Kanubeen Construction Ltd., with a completion timeline of six weeks.
The project is expected to enhance accessibility and economic development in the area.
In another development, ANSEC approved ₦48,500,000 for the construction of staff offices, an examination hall, and a laboratory building at Urban Boys Secondary School, Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area.
The contract was awarded to Harriets Millennium Estate Nigeria Ltd. as part of the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to strengthening governance, infrastructure, and social services across Anambra State.
He urged stakeholders to support these initiatives, which are aimed at fostering sustainable development and community well-being.
