Assailants Machete Newly-Wed Farmer, Tie Him To Tree Till He Died In Kogi

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

Yet-to-be-identified assailants inflicted machete injuries on a newly-wed farmer, Biodun Fakoro, tied him to a tree until life paled out of him in a farm in Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday afternoon at a farm at Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.

The deceased, described as a popular mechanic in Egbe, was said to have gotten married late last month to his heartthrob.

Sources said that late Abiodun was declared missing earlier, but after a frantic search, his remains were found by the security operatives and local vigilante.

They said Biodun’ s lifeless body was met tied to a tree along the path leading to his farm with several machete cuts all over his body.

“His assailants killed him by inflicting a lot of cuts on him and tied his lifeless body to a nearby tree in the farm,” a local from Egbe disclosed.

Angered by the sudden discovery, residents of the town, in protest, descended on herdsmen living in the environment.

The civil unrest led to the destruction of property, including burning of houses and motorcycles said to belong to the herdsmen who were suspected to be behind the dastardly act.

It was gathered that the security operatives, including soldiers, were later drafted to the area last Monday to restore law and order.

Gunshots were said to have rented the air on Tuesday night, including further burning of houses, as residents were asked to stay indoors to avoid stray bullets.

The State Police Public Relation Officer, SP William Aya, who confirmed the incident, however, said one person (making reference to Biodun) was declared missing the previous day and his dead body was later found along a farm path, which he added, ignited the reprisal attack.

“His decomposing body was found in the farm on Monday afternoon. Investigation is in progress to unravel his killers,” he noted.

Aya further stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, has drafted security operatives to the place to restore normalcy as well as apprehend the assailants.
