Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

Authorities of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, have directed students to vacate the campus following the extended industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for another eight weeks.

This was disclosed by the institution’s Registrar, Olubunmi Faluyi, in a statement dated March 16, 2022 and sighted by Stonix News.

“Management, at its meeting on Wednesday, 16 March, 2022, deliberated on the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which had now been extended by eight (8) weeks.

“As a result, academic activities in the University have become paralysed.

“Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of Senate, has directed that the University be closed until further notice.

“Therefore, all students are hereby mandated to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect,” the statement read in part.

However, the statement postgraduate students, who have paid their school fees and undergraduate students who are on industrial attachment or practical training, were exempted from the vacation notice.

“Such students are toof Students for accommodation arrangement,” the statement further clarified.

It further disclosed that “a new date of resumption will be communicated in due course.

“Management wishes our students safe journey to their various destinations.”

It will be recalled that ASUU extended its warning strike which ended March 14 for another two months to force the Federal Government to implement the 2021 reviewed agreement they signed together.

Meanwhile, Stonix News gathered on Thursday that the other two university unions, the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU) began their industrial action last Friday March 11 over the alleged unworking IPPIS salary payment regime of the Federal Government.
