Ojei had earlier been declared wanted by the Command after he allegedly jumped bail following his arrest on 14 August 2025.

Police say he was initially apprehended in connection with an incident on 29 May 2025, when staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) attempted to disconnect electricity supply to his residence on Anyameluhor Street, Asaba, over an outstanding debt of ₦4.87 million.

According to the police, Ojei attacked the BEDC team with a cutlass, threatening to kill them if they failed to reconnect his compound.

During the scuffle, a pregnant BEDC staff member fell and was hospitalised for more than two weeks.

Video evidence cited by investigators allegedly shows Ojei boasting that he was untouchable, repeatedly threatening to “cut” the officials, and declaring himself “Wong Box of Delta State.”

He further claimed political influence, warning the staff that “nothing will happen” if he carried out his threats.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Command under Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda is determined to see justice served.

“The Command wishes to reiterate that nobody is above the law, and the suspect is not an exception.

“We will ensure that Victor Ojei, a.k.a. Wong Box, is arraigned and brought to justice,” he stated.
