Kano Police Counsel Distressed Man Who Surrendered, Commend ACF For Support

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

THE Kano State Police Command has announced that a distressed individual who voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities has received counselling and support to help him turn away from crime.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the man initially claimed to be a thug but later confessed that he had never engaged in criminal activity. He admitted, however, that depression and poverty had pushed him towards considering unlawful acts.

The Commissioner of Police personally counselled the individual, advising him on the dangers of crime and urging him to embrace positive conduct. He stressed the importance of seeking help through proper channels rather than resorting to criminality, and called on the public to avoid stigmatising those who seek repentance.

The Command commended the man’s courage in coming forward, describing it as a critical first step towards rehabilitation. It encouraged others facing similar struggles to reach out to authorities, family, or support groups for assistance.

The statement also praised the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kano State Chapter, led by Dr Goni Faruk Umar, for providing immediate assistance to the individual.

The ACF donated N150,000 in cash, a bag of rice, and a further N250,000 interest-free loan to help him revive his carpentry business.

CP Bakori expressed appreciation to the ACF and other individuals who offered support, describing their intervention as an example of compassion and social responsibility that promotes peace and stability in Kano State.

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining security while supporting genuine efforts at rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals willing to abandon crime for lawful and productive lives.
