THE Delta State Police Command has today presented cheques totalling N16,679,749.92 to the families of 13 police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The ceremony, held at the Command’s headquarters in Asaba, represents the high point of a week-long series of events within the state, preceding the grand finale scheduled to take place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the presentation, the Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant.

He said it underscored the Force leadership’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their bereaved families.
“This is not merely a financial transaction; it is a recognition of ultimate sacrifice,” CP Oyeniyi said. “The Nigeria Police Force stands with you today and will continue to support you. Your loved ones’ sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support provided.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered on behalf of all recipients, Mr Ahanuwa Raphael expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Command.

He noted that the gesture would go a long way in easing the burdens faced by the families and prayed for continued strength and success for the Nigeria Police Force.
The total sum disbursed was N16,679,749.92 (Sixteen Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty-Nine Naira, Ninety-Two Kobo).
