THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant operational successes across multiple crime fronts, particularly in anti-kidnapping operations, armed robbery suppression, the arrest of violent offenders, the rescue of victims, and the recovery of arms, ammunition, vehicles, cash and other criminal exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, disclosed the achievements of the Command during a press briefing held on Friday in Abuja.
According to the Commissioner, a total of 300 cases were reported between October and 19 December 2025, leading to the arrest of 160 suspects across various categories of crime.
Giving a breakdown of the Command’s achievements, he said seven kidnapping cases were recorded during the period, with 41 suspects arrested.
He stated that several kidnapping gangs operating within and around the FCT were dismantled through intelligence-led operations, forest combing exercises and joint operations with sister security agencies.
Armed robbery cases recorded during the same period stood at 62, resulting in the arrest of 38 suspects. These operations, the police chief said, led to the dismantling of several armed robbery syndicates and the recovery of firearms and live ammunition.
Cases of “one-chance” robbery recorded during the period stood at 26, with 12 suspects arrested, following sustained surveillance, stop-and-search operations and targeted raids.
Car theft and vehicle snatching cases during the same period numbered 35, with 11 suspects arrested. A total of 20 stolen vehicles were recovered within and outside the FCT. The vehicles were linked to car theft, armed robbery, kidnapping and “one-chance” robbery operations.
Several other arrests were made in connection with homicide, cultism, drug-related offences, illegal possession of firearms, cyber-related fraud and other violent crimes, with 120 suspects apprehended across these categories.
On the rescue of kidnapped victims, the Police Command successfully rescued 24 victims, including women and children, from criminal hideouts and forest locations within and around the FCT.
An additional eight victims of “one-chance” robbery and other violent crimes were also rescued following prompt police intervention.
In line with the Command’s commitment to due process and effective justice delivery, 96 suspects were charged to court during the period under review. Of these, 60 convictions were secured, while other cases are at various stages of prosecution.
The cases charged include kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, fraud-related offences, cultism, burglary and other serious crimes. Disciplinary cases involving police personnel were also addressed through appropriate internal mechanisms in line with extant regulations.
Significant recoveries were recorded during the period. Items recovered include 21 AK-47 rifles, 10 shotguns, one K2 rifle, 37 locally made pistols, 31 locally fabricated firearms and four magazines.
Other recovered items include 13 knives, seven cutlasses, two long scaffold rods, seven mobile phones and 86 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
Also recovered were four digital scales, 131 armoured cables found in a tinted glass vehicle, a hand saw, an iron bar and three ATM cards.
Further exhibits include two identity cards, a large quantity of illicit drugs and substances, 1,700 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, 14 vehicles linked to car theft, armed robbery, kidnapping and “one-chance” robbery cases within and outside the FCT, 12 counterfeit stamps and 21 counterfeit boarding tickets.
The Command also recovered cash amounting to ₦15,450,000, being proceeds of kidnapping, armed robbery, fraud and other criminal activities.
Additional exhibits recovered by police operatives include communication devices, motorcycles, dangerous weapons and other items linked to criminal activities.
The Commissioner further disclosed that several high-risk operations were carried out during the period, particularly anti-kidnapping and robbery response operations, during which nine armed suspects were neutralised following gun duels with police operatives while attempting to evade arrest or escape with hostages.
However, the Police Command regretted that six police officers paid the supreme price in the line of duty during the period.
CP Dantawaye said the sacrifices of the fallen officers remain a solemn reminder of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of
