DAREDEVIL gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herders, have abducted a former Provost of the College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Ayodele Adetayo Ajayi and his driver.
The duo were kidnapped on Tuesday around 6:30pm along Oko Oloji, after Olodo Oja, before Odeda, Abeokuta while coming from a function with his wife and driver.
Stonix News reliably gathered that the gunmen halted their vehicle at gunpoint and whisked Dr Ajayi and his driver into the deep forest.
His wife, popularly called Mama Achievers, was said to have fainted when the hoodlums wanted to kidnap her and her husband into the woods.
His wife having fainted, the gunmen grabbed the provost and his driver and herded them into the woods.
Local hunters were said to be on the trail of the marauders into the woods along Kila and Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
A source said a police station is near the scene where the former was kidnapped.
A resident of the area, Mr Badejo, who intimated Stonix News of the incident, said the road stretch between Kila and Odeda has become a dangerous where commuters are usually abducted almost on weekly basis.
“The former college of education provost and his wife were kidnapped, but the wife fainted and so they took the man and the driver away.
“The problem happens virtually every day. They were coming from Kila, they own a school at Kila so they went for the end-of-the-year party and were returning to Abeokuta when they were captured this evening.
“There is a police station around the place, but the police have never co-operated with the community people.
“The area boys are ready to do something about the situation… The hunters in the community have started to look for the kidnappers in the forest.
“But after my initial call to you the kidnapped man has called that they have pushed them far into the forest,” he narrated.
Badejo added that motorists are always in danger of being kidnapped on the route any time from 7:00p.m
“There was an incident last week of a lady who supposed to get married on Saturday but was killed along with her fiance.
“They went to Ibadan to buy things for their wedding, but while they were returning to Lagos last Tuesday, they were gunned down by these kidnappers,” he disclosed.
As of the time of filing the report, operatives of the Ogun State Command were said to have swung into action, but have rejected the idea of excorting the local hunters into the forest to rescue the victims.
