China Retaliates With 34% Tariff On US-Made Products Amid Escalating Trade Tensions

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

China has announced plans to impose a 34% tariff on all US imports starting April 10, in response to the US’s recent double-digit tariffs.

Stonix News reports that this move matches the US’s 34% “reciprocal” tariff on Chinese exports.

Beijing has also tightened export controls on rare earth minerals, crucial for high-tech products like computer chips and electric vehicle batteries.

The controlled minerals include samarium, used in aerospace and defense manufacturing, and gadolinium, used in MRI scans.

China’s customs administration has suspended chicken imports from two US suppliers, Mountaire Farms and Coastal Processing, due to repeated detection of a banned drug.

Additionally, 27 firms have been added to China’s trade sanctions and export control lists, including 16 banned from exporting “dual-use” goods.

Beijing has also filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization, accusing the US of violating WTO rules and engaging in “unilateral bullying” that threatens global economic stability.

This escalation follows China’s previous tariffs on US coal, liquefied natural gas, crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-engine cars.

The new tariffs will apply to all US-made products, according to China’s Ministry of Finance.
