A judge was attacked in court by a defendant who vaulted the bench and sparked a bloody brawl with court officials and attorneys as he was about to be sentenced to prison in a felony battery case at Regional Justice Center, Las Vegas
According to our source, ABC News, the Nevada judge suffered minor injuries in the attack while a courtroom marshal suffered a bleeding gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder.
The 30-year-old defendant, Deobra Delone Redden, was wrestled to the floor behind the judge’s bench by several jail officers and courtroom staff members.
Recall that Redden was arrested late last year on allegations that he attacked a person with a baseball bat.
During the court session, Redden stood next to his defense attorney, Caesar Almase, asking the judge for leniency while describing himself as a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is.
“I’m not a rebellious person. I don’t think I should be sent to prison.
“But if it’s appropriate for you then you have to do what you have to do,” he told the judge.
The judge, however, made it clear she intended to put him behind bars.
As the court marshals moved to handcuff him, angry Redden yelled and charged forward, attacking as many as he could which included the judge.
“It happened so fast; it was hard to know what to do,” said the chief county district attorney, Richard Scow.
After the attack, Redden was arrested and jailed at the Clark County Detention Center, where he faced multiple new felony charges including battery on a protected person, referring to the judge and court officers.
