PDP Board Vows To Heal Rifts After Court Blow To Convention

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from a recent Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the party’s November 2025 National Convention, while simultaneously pledging to mend fences between its warring factions.

On Wednesday, the Board stated firmly that it is awaiting legal counsel on the next course of action and will pursue avenues for reconciliation within the party ranks.

In a communiqué issued following its emergency meeting in Abuja, the Board expressed deep concern over the persistent internal leadership squabbles and legal battles that have undermined the party’s cohesion and effective operation.

To tackle the infighting, the board has established a special committee tasked with fostering unity among stakeholders from all existing factions.

Trustees lamented that the party is approaching the 2027 general elections in a severely fractured state, urging members to prioritise the collective good over personal ambitions.

“Millions are registering via the party’s e-registration platform, underscoring the PDP’s standing as the party of choice,” the communiqué read.

The BoT praised Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their dedication and for holding the party together amid its leadership struggles.

At the well-attended gathering—the first of the year—Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, a former Governor of Niger State, was appointed as the new Secretary of the BoT.

The PDP called on Nigerians to remain optimistic as it works to reposition itself as a formidable challenge to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party’s leadership, it said, is focused on restoring its political vitality to ensure it can field strong candidates in the 2027 elections.

Acknowledging the continued support and loyalty of Nigerians, the BoT stressed its commitment to rescuing the nation from what it described as the APC’s grip and mismanagement.

It urged all party leaders to collaborate in the interest of the PDP, noting that Wednesday’s emergency meeting was designed to resolve leadership issues and map out a clear path forward. The party, it concluded, remains resolute in its mission to serve Nigeria and its people.
