AN imam was shot multiple times outside the Masjid Muhammad-Newark mosque in Newark, New Jersey on Wednesday morning.
The imam, Hassan Sharif, according to officials, worked to keep his community safe while serving at the Masjid Muhammad-Newark.
Stonix News reliably gathered that the shooting happened in the early hours of Wednesday outside the Masjid Muhammad-Newark mosque.
The imam was immediately rushed to a local in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead at about 2:20 p.m., just few hours after.
As contained in a statement released by Transportation Security Administration, Sharif worked as a transportation security officer (TSO) at Newark Liberty International Airport since 2006.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and send our condolences to his family, friends and co-workers,” TSA said.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, during a news conference said the evidence collected does not indicate that this was an act motivated by bias or an act of domestic terrorism.
The motive for the shooting, as of when filing this report, remained unclear.
“This investigation is ongoing, but at this time we do not have any information suggesting the crime was motivated by bias,” Platkin added
