IN a thrilling showdown of wit and intellect, young debaters from Delta State have brought global honour to Nigeria by emerging champions at a prestigious international academic competition held in Qatar.
The keenly contested finals featured formidable teams from the State of Chicago (USA), Nigeria, and host nation Qatar. Representing Nigeria, the Delta State team – winners of the National Schools Debate Championship organised by the President’s School Debate Nigeria under the Presidency – proved their mettle on the world stage.
Nigeria defeated host Qatar 2–1 in the opening round and sealed their dominance with a stunning 3–0 victory in the final, securing a convincing 5–1 aggregate win to claim the coveted trophy.

The victorious team was led to Qatar by the Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who had earlier accompanied them to the national championship that earned them the honour of representing the country.
Before their departure, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, hosted the team at Government House, Asaba, where he prayed with them and urged them to fly the nation’s flag high by returning with the trophy.
The triumph marks a proud moment for both Delta State and Nigeria, showcasing the power of education, preparation, and youth excellence on the global stage.
