Nollywood actress, Kemi Afolabi, says her doctor has told her that in less than five years from now, she’d be dead.
The verdict, according to her, is as a result of being diagnosed of Lupus, a terminal, incurable ailment.
In a recent interview with show host, Chude Jideonwo, published on Friday, the actress said she had already spent one year out of the five the doctor had predicted.
In a tearful mode, Afolabi quoted her doctor as saying, “Make sure you are with your loved ones. At least, you still have up to five years.”
Talking about the sickness, she said, “I have lupus. It’s not curable. You just have to take medications for the rest of your life.”
Amid unceasing pains as one of the symptoms of the disease, she disclosed that she had already spent N1.2m so far on treatment, yet no improvement.
Stonix News reports that Lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues.
Lupus (SLE), it was gathered, can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
Research shows that more than 100, 000 cases occur per year in Nigeria.
Symptoms vary, but can include fatigue, joint pain, rash and fever, and these can periodically get worse (flare up) and then improve.
It was learnt that treatment can help, but the condition has no cure and can last for years or be lifelong.
“While there’s no cure for lupus, current treatments focus on improving quality of life through controlling symptoms and minimising flare-ups.
“This begins with lifestyle modifications, including sun protection and diet.
“Further disease management includes medication such as anti-inflammatories and steroids,” Stonix News further gathered.
