THE Kano State Police Command has stepped in to resolve a dispute between the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) over the disconnection of power supply, which had raised serious concerns about the delivery of essential medical services.

The intervention, led by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, came after reports that the hospital’s operations were being severely disrupted, with potentially grave consequences for patients.

A meeting was convened on Monday, 15 September, at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, bringing together the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Professor A. Abba Sheshe, and KEDCO’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta.

According to a statement issued by police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the discussions proved productive, with both sides expressing gratitude for the Commissioner’s mediation. During the talks, Dr Jimeta directed the immediate restoration of electricity to the hospital, stressing KEDCO’s commitment to resolving the crisis.

The police noted that the resolution underscores their core mandate of protecting life and property while ensuring that critical institutions such as hospitals continue to function without interruption.

The Command further commended both parties for their cooperation and assured the public of its continued role in maintaining peace and stability across Kano State.
