IN a resounding recognition of academic excellence and untainted service, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has promoted Dr Babatunji Oyinloye to the rank of Professor of Biochemistry, solidifying his place among young Nigeria’s leading scientific minds.

The promotion, which took effect from October 1, 2024, was announced in a letter dated March 21, 2025, signed by the university’s Registrar & Secretary to Council, Lady Christie Oluborode and made available to Stonix News on Monday, April 07, 2025.

The announcement caps Dr Oyinloye’s year’s of unwavering dedication to research, teaching, and leadership in Nigeria’s academic and scientific community.

The letter reads: “I write to inform you that the Appointments and Promotions Committee at its meeting held on Friday 31st January 2025 has considered and approved your promotion as Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Chemical Sciences, College of Sciences, Afe Babalola University.

“By copies of this letter, all the University functionaries are hereby duly informed.

“I hope this will enhance your positive impact on the academic growth and development of yourself, Department, College and Afe Babalola University as a whole.”

Dr Oyinloye, who joined ABUAD in 2012, has served as Postgraduate Coordinator and Deputy Director, Institute of Drug Research and Development, S.E Bogoro Center, Afe Babalola University.

He has published over 130 papers in SCOPUS, and peer-reviewed journal articles, many of which are published in top-tier international journals and has over 4000 citations in Google Scholar.

He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for various reputable journals such as Nutrition Research and Practice, and Acta Biochimica Polonica, Phytotherapy Research, Nephrology, Biomarkers, among others.

His various research centred on the biochemical evaluation of various medicinal plants used in the traditional treatment of metabolic diseases with a focus on investigating the signal transduction mechanisms and the development of nutraceuticals (plant-derived food).

Dr Oyinloye’s career spans teaching, research and consultancy roles across Nigeria, South Africa, and other countries.

A former postdoctoral fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, he is a member of numerous professional bodies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and the Chemical Society of Nigeria.

His curriculum vitae reveals a robust academic background, with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Zululand, South Africa, and international exposure through research engagements and conferences in Canada, South Africa, the USA, and beyond.

He has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate theses and is a recipient of the 2016 Young Scientist Award of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) in Vancouver, Canada.
