How I Overcame Malaria Scourge As Young Believer – Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has recounted his early struggles with malaria and how he experienced divine healing through a boost in faith, inspired by the testimony of another believer.

In the Thursday, 22nd May edition of his widely read devotional, Open Heavens, themed “From Hearing to Experiencing Miracles”, the revered cleric emphasised the power of personal experience in solidifying faith and understanding God’s miraculous capabilities.

“There is nothing like being a testifier and experiencing testimonies personally,” he wrote.

“When you read of mighty miracles in the Bible or hear testimonies of the great things God has done for His people, you might not fully understand His ‘Almightiness’.

“However, this will not be the case if you personally experience His supernatural intervention.”

Using biblical examples such as Rahab in Joshua 2:1–23 and the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:27, Pastor Adeboye encouraged believers to allow the testimonies of others to build their faith, thereby opening themselves up to miraculous encounters.

Reflecting on his early Christian journey, he confessed to having initially struggled with the concept of divine healing.

“In those days, I was always down with malaria, and I kept taking medications,” he recalled.

A pivotal turning point came when he witnessed a miraculous healing during a church service.

“One day, I saw an elderly man, whom I had always known to have a bent back, walking perfectly upright in church,” he recounted.

The man, while sharing his testimony, revealed that he had straightened up in anger after someone mocked his faith during evangelism.

Though initially in pain, he was completely healed by the time he returned home.

“When I heard that testimony, my faith was stirred, and I knew that divine health was possible,” Pastor Adeboye said.

“I allowed Jesus to become my doctor, and by His grace, I have not had to take malaria medications ever since. I experienced a miracle because my faith increased when I heard someone else’s testimony.”

Encouraging readers to reflect deeply on the testimonies of others, he added, “Beloved, if you have heard a testimony from someone about a kind of miracle that you are believing God for, let it build faith in you. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34); if He has given someone a miracle, He is willing and able to do the same for you.”

In concluding the devotional, Pastor Adeboye offered a spiritual challenge:

“Action Point: Meditate on testimonies concerning the things you are believing God for until they build faith in you.”

The devotional serves as a spiritual reminder that faith birthed from hearing can mature into life-changing personal encounters.
