I’m Aware You Are Suffering, But Go Back To Farm – Buhari Tells Nigerians

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

NIGERIANS should endeavour to go back to agriculture if hunger and suffering must be checked in the country, says President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari said he was absolutely acquainted with the suffering and pains Nigerians are going through to eke a meal under his administration.

He made the remark during a recorded exclusive interview with Channels Television, on Thursday which was monitored by Stonix News.

Seun Okinbaloye had asked Buhari if he was aware of the anguish and difficulty to eke a living under his administration.

But President Buhari quipped: “I’m absolutely aware of it, but like I said, look at the vast population of Nigerians?

“Only 2.5 per cent of the land revenue are being cultivated. We realised this rather too late, but we have to go back to the land (agriculture).”

Amid fear of herdsmen’s attacks on farmers in their farms, he advised Nigerians to leverage the opportunity that agriculture offers in order to find a lasting solution to the current economic doldrums.

He, however, made a case for traditional rulers in the area of security, saying traditional rulers must play a huge role in bringing peace to communities.

He also advocated for more dialogue in solving the farmer-herder clashes plaguing many parts of the country.

“The role of traditional rulers must not be undermined, because in their areas, they know who is who, even by families, not to even talk of individuals,” he submitted.
