Barely a month after Miss Deborah Yakubu was gruesomely murdered Islamic dissidents in Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, a vigilante has been hacked to death and burnt in Abuja over alleged blasphemy.
The security operative, it was gathered, had vowed not to release a suspect in his custody even if Allah asked him to do so.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Timber Shed neighbourhood, Lugbe Federal Housing, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
A video of the mob action has been gone viral on the social media.
Witnesses said a suspect riding on a bike was arrested by the local vigilante operatives and friends of the suspect then came to demand his release.
In the process of requesting the release of the suspect, the deceased said he wouldn’t listen even if Allah asked him to.
The statement was considered blasphemous by the mob made up of Muslims.
Another witness told Peoples Gazette the deceased’s colleagues were amongst those who lynched him.
Meanwhile, police Operatives are said to have moved in to clear the area and restore normalcy.
Stonix News recalled that Deborah Samuel Yakubu had opposed posting Islamic messages on her course WhatsApp group and her coursemates set her up for lynching on April 12.
Till date, suspects arrested in connection with Ms Samuel’s murder case, who were charged with mere breaching of public peace and bring assisted by 34 lawyers and a professor of law, are still awaiting conviction.
Recall that the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque and professor, Chief Imam Ibrahim Maqari, was among the religious leaders who publicly endorsed Deborah’s murder and demanded protection of the suspects.
