PARIS Saint-Germain and Morocco international defender, Achraf Hakimi, has been crowned the 2025 African Footballer of the Year, beating Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah to claim the continent’s most prestigious individual honour.
Hakimi was announced as the Player of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards held on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco, following a season that showcased his exceptional consistency, leadership and influence for both club and country.
The rampaging right-back enjoyed a remarkable year with PSG, delivering standout performances and playing a pivotal role in their domestic campaign, while reinforcing his reputation as one of world football’s most dynamic full-backs.
His blistering pace, defensive discipline and attacking contribution proved decisive in swaying voters in his favour ahead of Osimhen and Salah, who were both widely tipped as strong contenders for the prize.
The award represents a career-defining milestone for the 27-year-old, who has long been regarded as one of Africa’s brightest talents but had previously fallen short of clinching CAF’s top individual accolade.
The Rabat ceremony attracted top football administrators, legends and dignitaries from across the continent, with Hakimi receiving a standing ovation as he stepped up to lift the coveted trophy.
