THE Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode Adebowale, has urged newly admitted students to make a positive impact on the institution during their stay.

In his words, he advised the freshers to “leave the university better than you met it.”

He gave this charge during the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony held on Tuesday, at the University’s International Conference Centre, where 4,633 freshers took the oath of studentship administered by the Registrar.

In his address, Professor Adebowale stressed the importance of discipline, time management, and the pursuit of excellence.

He reminded the new students that their actions will contribute to the legacy they leave behind.

“Strive for distinction in your studies and be intentional about personal growth.

“Leave this university better than you met it,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, a distinguished alumnus from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dr Olukayode Abiola Ayenuyo advised the students to embrace learning in all its forms, emphasising that “no knowledge is lost.”

“Embrace doing everything, no knowledge is lost. Find your fascination and be intentional in all that you do,” he encouraged.

He also cautioned them against merely drifting through university life, saying, “When you just go through the motion, you lose sight of any greater purpose.”

Dr Ayenuyo, in a generous gesture, donated Five Million Naira to the university following his speech.

The solemn event was attended by excited parents, guardians, and well-wishers, alongside members of the University Management, faculty Deans, and the leadership of the Student Union.
