More Than 13 Passengers Burnt To Death In Enugu Auto Crash

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

NO fewer than 13 passengers have been burnt beyond recognition in a fatal accident in Enugu State.

The accident occurred on Sunday night along Enugu/Port-Harcourt Road, near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.

Reports said a 14-seater bus was travelling from Imo State to Adamawa when it rammed into a trailer before bursting into flames.

Enugu State Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr Joseph Toby, while confirming the tragedy, described it as unfortunate.

According to him, the command is yet to ascertain the casualty figure.

“My boys are still at the accident scene. It was a commercial vehicle that was involved in the crash that caused a fire.

“So my people are still there, as I am telling you now, we don’t know the exact number of persons that were involved and I don’t want to start giving wrong information,” he said.

“But as soon as details are gathered, we will post it online. We don’t know the number of persons that were involved. It happened last night.

“Throughout the night we were there with the fire service to make sure we put out the fire but because of the sit-at-home order, we found it difficult to go there this morning, eventually, I have taken my boys and we are there now.

“Any number you see is just speculation because we have to be very sure of what we give to the public,” he noted.
