By Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned for further hearing, the divorce suit brought before it by a man, Jimoh, against his wife, Bilikisu, whom she accused of abandoning her faith and engaging in diabolic practices.
Jimoh explained that he and Bilikisu were both Muslims, but that his wife suddenly abandoned her faith and started attending church and at the same time patronising witch doctors.
The plaintiff mentioned that the defendant worshipped diverse items, and turned their home into a shrine.
According to him, she poured salt all over their apartment, which made him feel uncomfortable.
Jimoh stated that Bilikisu went further to pour salt on his father’s seat and shoes, and threatened to chase him out of his own house.
The plaintiff said that he stopped eating the defendant’s food after she swore to kill him.
Jimoh told the court he was tired of living in constant fear in his own house.
He, therefore, beseeched the court to dissolve their union.
Bilikisu pleaded not liable to the charges when they were read to her.
She also refused that their marriage be dissolved.
Jimoh, in his evidence said, “My wife and I got married as Muslims, and we jointly carried out the doctrines of our religion judiciously.
“But my wife to my chagrin suddenly changed and started attending church, while she also paid regular visits to witch doctors.
“Bilikisu engaged in diabolic practices and brought fear and tension into our home.
“My wife is in the habit of pouring salt all over the house.
“I expressed my disapproval on this, but she ignored my complaint.
“I invited her parents to our home, and they were stunned at what my wife has turned our abode to.
“She turned a deaf ear to their advice and got the more involved in her diabolic practice.
“Bilikisu overstepped her bound when she poured salt on my father’s seat and shoes.
“She vowed to chase my father out of his own house.
“My wife bragged to me that she was powerful and threatened to kill me.
“I stopped eating her food about 8 years ago after she made this pronouncement.
“Bilikisu has long ceased to be a virtuous woman.
“She now stands as a bad example to our children whom she has failed to give adequate training and attention.
“She saw a wristwatch with one of our sons and did not deem it fit to ask where he got it from.
“I sent her brother who is living with us to our children’s school to find out about the wristwatch, and he came back with a shameful report.
“The school authority after an investigation discovered that he stole it from a pupil.
“Bilikisu presently occupies my second flat, but I want her out of my house and life.
“I have suffered enough in her hands. All that I pray for is divorce.”
The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case.
