ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 37 suspects in a clampdown on scavenging activities in Abuja, following a citywide ban issued by the FCT Minister, Bar. Nyesom Wike.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu, PhD, unveiled the suspects at the command headquarters, reaffirming his commitment to enforcing the prohibition on scavenging and regulating the notorious pantaker markets.

“These scavengers are dangerous elements who must be removed to reduce crime in the FCT,” Odumosu stated, alleging their involvement in vandalising road infrastructure and robbing commuters at night using weapons.
Among the items recovered during the operation were weapons, including daggers and jack knives, narcotics such as Indian hemp and codeine syrup, and various stolen materials like iron rods.

Odumosu called on residents to properly dispose of waste through authorised channels and to report suspicious activities involving scavengers, also known as Baban bola.

“It is imperative that citizens work with us to flush out these criminal elements,” he urged.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations proceed, with the command pledging to ensure thorough prosecution.
