‘Film Industry Was Not Enough To Sustain Me,’ Ghanaian Actor Inspires Many To Venture Into Farming

GHANAIAN actor, politician and agripreneur, John Dumelo, has expressed his deep passion for agriculture, noting that the passion led him to venture into poultry farming, yam cultivation, amongst others.

Dumelo said he believes “agriculture is the key to creating a self-reliant future”, and that was why he “encouraged” youths to “explore the soil, invest in farming, and contribute to building the country.”

He wrote:

“The film industry was not enough to sustain me. Besides, I had a deep passion for agriculture, a desire to eliminate hunger in my community and beyond through my products. This passion led me to venture into poultry farming, yam cultivation, ginger, pepper, and cereal production.

“I believe agriculture is the key to creating a self-reliant future. That’s why I encourage our youth to explore the soil, invest in farming, and contribute to building our country.

“If I ever return to acting, it will be purely for passion because agriculture has given me more than I ever dreamed of. The soil has proven to be a bank that never fails, always rewarding the effort you put into it.

“To all aspiring young people out there, let’s embrace farming and transform our communities, one harvest at a time.”

What You May Not Know About John Dumelo

Born on February 3, 1984, John Dumelo began his acting career at a young age, appearing in his first film, “Baby Thief,” in 1991. Dumelo has, since then, become a prominent figure in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, starring in numerous films, including “The Perfect Picture,” “A Northern Affair,” and “Love or Something Like That.”

Additionally, Dumelo has ventured into politics. He contested in the 2020 parliamentary elections for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but lost to Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

However, he won the seat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Dumelo is also an entrepreneur, having launched his clothing line, J.Melo, in 2012.
