Oborevwori’s Tribunal Victory For All Deltans – Sam Sodje

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

SAM Sodje, former Super Eagles international and professional footballer, has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on his victory at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Friday.

The tribunal, through Justice HC Ahuchaogu, had, in Asaba, dismissed the petition filed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the victory of Oborevwori in the March 18 governoship election.

Sodje, who had part of his playing career at Reading Football Club between 2006 and 2009, described the governor’s victory as divine and urged the losers to team up with him to develop the state.

“I want to celebrate and facilitate with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the executive governor of Delta State on his victory at the Delta State governorship election tribunal.

“This victory is God’s divine message to the people of Delta State and such should be taken also as a divine call to everyone to accept the result of the last governorship elections as God’s mandate for the governor to serve the people of Delta State specifically and Nigerians in general.

“In light of the above and not withstanding the fact that the other party has the constitutional right of appeal in respect of this tribunal decision, it’s my prayer and hope that the other parties see reason, and hopefully do the amiable thing by deciding to accept the judgement of the tribunal in order not to continue distracting the state governor from delivery on his election promises.

“The task of moving Delta State forward and delivering gains of democracy to our people demands the efforts and contributions of all Deltans going forward so as to make good things happen in our dear state.

“While singling out the governor for congratulations, this victory is for everyone in Delta State and as such this congratulations is for all Delta State.

“I have no doubt that His Excellency, being a man of God, will be accommodating in victory and shall continue to run an open door administration that will be accommodating to every well-meaning Deltan who is willing to contribute to the development of the state,” the statement issued on Friday read in part.
