Police Bolster Security in Rivers After Emergency Declaration

THE Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, has intensified efforts to restore order in Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu on 18th March 2025.

The move comes in response to a prolonged 22-month political crisis that has brought the state to a “tripping point,” raising concerns over national security.

According to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, additional personnel and resources have been deployed to the state to “bolster security, protect lives and property, and secure critical infrastructure.”

The police reiterated that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any attempt to exploit the situation through unlawful gatherings or activities will be “met with the full force of the law.”

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged citizens to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities, warning that security forces are “fully prepared to take decisive action against any threats to peace and stability.”
