Police Commission Dismisses Two Officers, Reduces Six Ranks


THE Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal and prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) for misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and conduct unbecoming of public officers.

In addition, the PSC reduced the ranks of six officers involved in similar offences. Among them, two Superintendents were demoted to Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents to Inspectors.

These decisions were made during the concluding stages of the Commission’s second plenary meeting held at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

The PSC also issued severe reprimands to 10 senior officers found guilty of unauthorised disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and improper conduct.

Nine other officers were reprimanded, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated. One Assistant Superintendent received a letter of warning.

The Commission also approved various police promotions, including elevating 11 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General, 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, and 21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.

Promotions were extended to 57 Chief Superintendents, 1348 Superintendents, and 876 Deputy Superintendents.

DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), Chairman of the PSC, emphasised the importance of discipline within the force, stating that prompt resolution of Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) is crucial to avoid stagnating innocent officers.

The decisions have been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
