Police Nab AEDC Staff, 5 Others Fleeing With Vandalised Transformer

OPERATIVES of the Federal Caoital Territory (FCT) Police Command have trailed and nabbed six suspects including a staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) while fleeing with a vandalised electricity transformer.

SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure while parading the suspects in Abuja on Friday.

She said the suspects were arrested on Thursday April 11, 2024, at about 10:45p.m, while acting on credible intelligence.

She gave their names as Kabiru Muhammed, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhassan, Shafi’u Suleiman, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Raymond Mailabari, who is an AEDC staff.

SP Adeh said the all-male suspects were resident at Tipper Garage, Mpape, Abuja.

According to her, the suspects were trying to escape with an already vandalized transformer they had loaded on a crane truck in Maitama, when police operatives swooped on them.

The vandalized transformer, a crane truck, a blue colour Mercedes Benz with Reg No. PKN 497 XA, a white colour J5 bus with Reg No. RBC 228 XC, and an ash colour Peugeot 406 car with Reg No. GSN 13 AA belonging to the AEDC staff were all recovered.

“While the investigation is still ongoing, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Bennett Igweh, wishes to reiterate his commitment to ensuring the safety of live and property in the Territory.

“He also urges residents to be vigilant and take advantage of the police emergency lines to report suspicious activities through: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, and 07057337653 PCB: 09022222352, CRU: 08107314192,” Adeh said in the statement she read in part.
