EMBATTLED governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara appears to be garnering more support as workers in the state, under the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), have vowed to contend with his enemies.
Chairman of NLC, Rivers State chapter, Comrade Alex Agwanwo, made the vow at the inauguration of the state and local government executives as well as the coordinators of the Grassroots Mobilizers for Sim (GMS) on Monday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He pledged the state workers’ unalloyed support for Governor Fubara and GMS which political wings cut across top politicians from all the 23 local government areas, grassroot politicians and civic society leaders with the aim of achieving sustainable governance.
Comrade Agwanwo averred that the support was necessary because the governor has shown that he’s more concerned and proactive about the workers’ welfare in the state.
He, therefore, warned that anyone who wants to contend with Fubara should also be ready to contend with the workers of the state.
Speaking also at the occasion, President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF), Chief Yamaabana Legborsi, who stood for the Special Guest of Honour, Captain Mike Cookey, commended the leadership of the GMS for the wonderful initiative of changing the people’s narrative.

Legborsi appealed to the governor to set up a commission of inquiry into past governments in order to put machinery to recover Rivers properties.
The inauguration also has infused in it the inaugural lecture titled: “The Importance of Citizens Participation in Achieving Sustainable Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Rivers State,” delivered by Professor Lawrence Ikechi Ajoku who laid emphasis on the need for promoting peace.
According to him, because Governor Fubara is a man of peace and who desires peace across the state, GMS should go down to mobilise for peace cutting across families, villages and local government areas of the state, adding that there’s the need for collective mobilization in attaining enviable heights.
In a chat with journalists at the inauguration, facilitator of the event, Hon. Norisia People, who’s the Special Adviser to Governor Fubara on Youth and Sports, disclosed that GMS has been in existence before the 2023 general elections.
He added that it’s on records on how the group participated in facilitating the governor’s victory, saying the grassroots mobilizers will double their efforts.
The governor’s aide vowed not to stop at the symposium and the inauguration of the state and local government executives and their coordinators, but move in from ward to ward in all the 23 local government areas to plant the seed of peace, unity and stability.
