THE Concerned Citizens of Rivers State (CC 23) has described the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, 18th March 2025, as both “imperative and inevitable.”
In a statement on Wednesday, the group’s convener, Dr Ken Robinson, said the decision was necessary to end the prolonged crisis, prevent further loss of innocent lives, and safeguard the nation’s economy and security.

“This action has, we hope, put an end to the unnecessary crisis and averted the potential loss of innocent lives and property in the state, as well as threats to our national economy and security,” Robinson stated.
He recalled that in December 2023, CC 23 had called for peace and reconciliation after President Tinubu’s second intervention in the crisis.

However, the group’s appeal was met with criticism.
“We were vilified at the time, but look at where we are today,” he said.
Robinson also faulted those in influential positions who could have helped resolve the conflict but instead chose sides and worsened the situation.

“Those who should feel ashamed are the individuals in influential positions who could have provided constructive advice to resolve the situation but instead chose sides and exacerbated it,” he added.
The group expressed hope for a swift return to peace and stability in Rivers State.
