Mixed reactions from students on WhatsApp and Facebook platforms have trailed the Academic Staff Union of Universities’s (ASUU), rolled over warning strike by 12 weeks.
Stonix News has reported that the National Executive Council of the body came to the conclusion to extend the strike after the previous two months warning strike came to an end on Monday, May 9, 2022.
Following the extension, university students have taken to their WhatsApp and Facebook groups to air their disappointment and sadness.
While some students of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, have lamented how their landlords will likely throw out their properties if their rents expire before the strike is called off, some have concluded to get married and move on with their lives.
Uduakobong Afia said: “Tell u what
As I speak to u now, my landlord no Dey pick calls again. Dem don already rent my house give another person Keep my things for store.”
“Asuu will just be frustrating someone, five years go turn six years now. Your children are not in Nigerian universities o. Asuu abeg help me nah… Let me graduate first please,” Emerald pleaded.
Another, simply identified as Vickkie on Facebook, vowed never to allow her children study in Nigerian public schools.
One Anyiam Christian Kelechu commended ASUU for the action, saying the development will bring the attention of the world to the harmful atmosphere destroying Nigerian tertiary institutions.
“This is a welcome development. I must commend ASUU for taking the bull by the horns in extending this strike.
“This is a step in the right direction, as it will help to bring the attention of the world on the academic miasma, pigsty and imbroglio ravaging our tertiary institutions,” Kelechu reiterated.
