Tricycle Rider Caught While Aiding Armed Robbery Suspects To Rob Commuters In Bayelsa

A commercial tricycle rider, Freeborn Newton Ogelle, has been arrested while allegedly conveying armed robbery suspects around to dispossess people of their belongings in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The tricycle rider hails from Opuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect and three others who were armed with guns were robbing innocent victims in different locations within Yenagoa metropolis late Thursday night when a vigilant member of the public inforned the state’s vigilance group.

A statement from the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, disclosed that the information came through an anonymous phone call that armed four-man gang in a tricycle were robbing innocent victims at different locations around Kpansia area.

“Our men, led by the Secretary of the State Vigilante Service, Hon. Innocent Kalaingo, immediately swung into action and traced the tricycle along Yenezue-gene road off Mbiama-Yenagoa expressway.

“Immediate they sighted us at the INEC junction, they drove off with speed, and on getting to Kpansia school field, they jumped out of the tricycle and ran into the Epie creek with their arms, while some of our men were still chasing them.

Meanwhile the tricycle rider was caught along Okaka road,” he noted.

According to Hon. Kalaingo, who led the special squad of the state vigilante service to the operation, the other three boys that jumped out of the tricycle were armed with guns, carrying bags and phones along with them.

As at the time of filing this report, the suspect and his tricycle has been handed over to the Ekeki Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command.

Hon. Alagba, however, thanked the informant, who called the phone line of the outfit as of the time of the robbery to give them the tip for the arrest.

He urged members of the public to always assist the security agency by giving information that will help curb crime and criminality in the state.

Alagba further disclosed that the Bayelsa State Vigilante is always ready to put in its best to make the state crime free.
