Why President Tinubu Deserves Second Term – Omokri

Social commentator and political activist Reno Omokri has declared his full support for a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing a string of economic, infrastructural, and security achievements under the incumbent administration.

Speaking on behalf of his global followership known as #RenosNuggeteers, Omokri, via his official X handle, on Friday, called on Nigerians to back the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda as the nation approaches another election cycle.

Omokri pointed to significant reductions in Nigeria’s national debt as a core achievement.

“President Tinubu has reduced our total national debt by $14 billion – from the $108.2 billion inherited from the Buhari administration to $94.2 billion as of today,” he said.

He further lauded the administration’s financial management, noting that Nigeria has now fully repaid its debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), prompting the global body to remove the country from its list of debtor nations.

Economic indicators, Omokri argued, continue to trend upwards.

He referenced a report by the World Bank’s lead economist for Nigeria, Alex Sienaert, which revealed that the economy grew by 4.6% in the final quarter of 2024, with further expansion forecasted for early 2025.

Trade performance under Tinubu was also praised, with a record-breaking trade surplus of ₦5.81 trillion recorded in Q3 of 2024, driven largely by growth in non-oil exports.

In the education sector, Omokri noted a period of unusual stability: “For the first time since the Shagari era, universities have not experienced a single strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.”

He added that a total of ₦32.8 billion has been disbursed in student loans to about 200,000 students.

Omokri also highlighted progress in infrastructure, referencing ongoing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the East-West Road, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway.

Security, he claimed, has seen some of the most striking improvements. “Throughout Buhari’s final year, not a single bandit leader was arrested, killed or convicted,” Omokri said. “But under Tinubu, more than 14 of the most notorious bandit leaders have been eliminated.” Among those listed were Kachalla Ali Kawaje, Yellow Hassan, and Boderi.

He contrasted the Tinubu administration’s approach to terrorism with that of the previous regime, accusing Buhari’s government of coddling militants. “Boko Haram fighters were being rehabilitated and celebrated. That’s now history. Nigeria has climbed from the third most insecure country to sixth on the Global Terror Index.”

Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and a vocal critic of both the Buhari administration and Peter Obi’s supporters, ended his statement with a rallying call: “I urge all Nigerians to join me in supporting President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office by 2027.”

Omokri signed off with his characteristic flamboyance, citing his accolades, including being named Hollywood Magazine’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2019 and one of Africa’s most talked-about personalities in 2024.
