Yuletide: Osun CP Bans Street Carnivals

THE Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Faleye Olayele has banned all street carnival activities before, during and after Yuletide celebrations to enhance security in the state.

In a statement signed by SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, the ban was as a result of information that criminal elements are planning on carrying out havoc in the guise of street Carnival celebration.

According to the statement, CP Olayele has advised organizers of carnivals to use hired halls or compound with gates for the celebration in order to ensure security.

Parents and guardians were also urged to warn their kids and wards to refrain from any behaviour that can endanger the peace of the festive season, as anyone found guilty will be dealt with severely.

The statement reads: “The Osun Police Command in its efforts to guarantee peaceful Christmas/New year celebration in the state is using this medium to advise members of the public, especially the youths that Annual Street Carnivals are prohibited for this period.

“Intelligence availed the Command suggests that miscreants under the guise of street carnival plans to carry out mayhem, as such the Command is using this forum to inform the general public that streets carnival will not be tolerated in whatever form or guise.

“Therefore, all organizers of carnivals are enjoined to hire halls or use gated compounds to carryout/celebrate their festival.

“Parents/guardians are equally warned to advise their children/wards to desist from any act that could jeopardize the peace of this season. Hence anyone caught or found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Good people of the State are enjoined to go about their legitimate/lawful business/celebration peacefully.

“The Commissioner of Police wishes everyone a very merry Christmas and prosperous new year in advance.”
