THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged political parties in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states that are yet to submit the list of political agents to do so before the deadline ahead of their governorship elections.
In a statement released on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman for Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, it was stated that despite the Commission’s notice and reminders for parties to do so, Political Parties are yet to comply by submitting the list of their agents.
According to the statement, only 55% of the expected total of 189,180 polling unit agents have been uploaded to the designated INEC Portal for Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States.
It also stated that 29,278 out of the expected 40,372 (72.5%) for Bayelsa State; 51,681 out of 85,644 (60.3%) for Imo, and 23,720 out of 63,144 (37.6%) for Kogi State have been uploaded.
The commission has, therefore, warned Political Parties that the portal will automatically shut down at midnight on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with no extension.
Furthermore, the statement encouraged all interested Media organisations that are yet to get accreditation for the election to do so on imap.inecnigeria.org before the accreditation deadline which is October 22, 2023.
INEC also appealed to all Political Parties and candidates to avoid utterances and acts that may heat the polity and that the Commission will continue to monitor the situation and sustain its engagement with security agencies and stakeholders to ensure peaceful conduct of elections in the three States.
