INCREDIBLY amid excruciating hunger, a leaked memo sent to President Bola Tinubu by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, reveals that the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage requested a whopping N1 billion for its inauguration.
The memo is currently making the round in the social media with mixed reactions on the rationale behind such huge amount at a time hordes of Nigerians are crying daily of hunger and privation.
The leaked memo, with File Number 58957/S.I/T6/419 and signed by the SGF, sought approval for N1 billion only for the inauguration of the new National Minimum Wage Committee.
The memo was sent to President Bola Tinubu on January 18, 2024.
Akume, in his green-ink pen signature instructed the payer to “start (payment) with N500 million” with his signatures reading 22/01/24.
An AIT correspondent, Ebuwa Omo-Osagie, who reportedly sought confirmation on telephone from the Director of Information, Office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen at about 10:00a.m Friday, was told to step down the story and wait for clarification.
As of the time of filing the report, the Director of Information office of the SGF, has yet to respond to AIT’s enquiries.
Stonix News reports that the Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage was eventually inaugurated on January 26, 2024.
