THE Delta State Police Command has dismissed allegations by Mrs Gladys Ubogu Okeoghene accusing officers of extorting ₦2.186 million.
In a press release dated 28th January 2025, the Police described the claim as misleading and an attempt to evade justice while drawing undue public sympathy.
The issue originated on 22nd October 2024, when Mrs Okeoghene filed a complaint alleging that a car dealer fraudulently sold her Mercedes Benz GLK and C400 vehicles and disappeared with the proceeds.
Following investigations, six suspects were apprehended in Lagos and Abuja, leading to the recovery of one vehicle and the prosecution of the dealer, David Solomon.
The Police clarified that funds from the sale of the GLK were sent directly to Mrs Okeoghene’s son, Highness Onoruikpe, contradicting her earlier claims.
Upon discovery of this, the Mercedes Benz C400, previously returned to her, was brought back for further investigation.
Mrs Okeoghene subsequently abandoned the vehicle and the case.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated that no money was collected from Mrs Okeoghene at any point and cautioned media outlets to ensure factual accuracy before publishing allegations.
